Wednesday Night Revive - Daniel Bentley, May 13, 2020, Psalm 1
As a kid, I read these books titled Choose Your Own Adventure Novels where you would be forced to make a decision and that decision would dictate where the story and— your life— went. Psalm 1 presents the reader with a choice between two paths; the road of the righteous and the way of the wicked. We have choices. The Psalmist tell us, "the road of the righteous is the blessed path." Proverbs reminds us, "The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray" (Proverbs 12:26). Big sins always start with small compromises. As the Psalmist tells us he "delighted in the word of God," we learn that the defining characteristic of the "blessed" man and the "blessed" woman is that they delight in the Word of God. Unfortunately, many people dismiss God’s Word altogether. We see the outcomes of two paths. The person who chooses to walk down the road of the righteous will become like a, "a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season." Stable and strong. In contrast, the way of the wicked leads to destruction and death. Jesus is the path that leads to the way, the truth, and the life.
