"Now it was the Feast of Hanukkah (Dedication) in Jerusalem, and it was winter. And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch"(John 10:22-23). This Is The story of cleansing and rededicating the Temple of God, and of bringing Light into a time of greatest darkness.. The context of Jesus being at the Temple on Hanukkah is that He is the Good Shepherd who would lay down His life for the sheep (John 10:1-4, 7-11). During Hanukkah on each of the eight nights, a candle Is lit in a special menorah called a Hanukkiyah. There is a special ninth candle called the shammash or servant candle which is used to light the other candles. The number eight is significant. During the darkest time in human history, God sent His Son, the Light of the World.
