Jesus took our shame and guilt upon Himself. Jesus was mocked by His own people; the Cross was a public spectcle. He was executed on a public highway, when through the day hundreds even thousands were traveling and shopping. During His crucifixion Jesus stood right in the center of sinful humanity. It is because Jesus did NOT save Himself that you and I can be saved! Love kept Jesus on the cross, not nails. He spoke three times: “My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me?” “I thirst,” and “It is Finished!" Jesus was forsaken that we might be found. "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Cor 5:21).
