Matthew 27:15-26, Ray Bentley, Sunday, May 17, 2020
Jesus brought before Pilate: There was something different, even innocent about Jesus; Pilate hoped that releasing a prisoner might solve the problem. The choice was, “A notorious prisoner named Barabbas,” who had committed murder as a revolutionary terrorist—or Jesus. Interestingly, Barabbas means “son of the father.” The religious leaders knew the best way to influence Pilate was through the mob. Every one of us must make the same kind of decision Pilate made. You must decide what you are going to do with Jesus, who is called Messiah. Pilate’s decision had nothing to do with the destiny of Jesus. It determined his own destiny. The blood of Jesus brings forgiveness, as He prayed, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
