Ray Bentley - Proof of the Resurrection / Matthew 27:57 - 28:8
The importance of the guarded tomb: If it had not been for the intervention of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, the body of Jesus would not have received a proper burial. Without realizing It, the Jewish leaders and the Roman government joined forces to help prove the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is interesting that the disciples of Jesus forgot that Jesus promised to rise from the dead on the third day, but His enemies remembered. The followers of Jesus of Nazareth had witnessed the tortuous execution of their leader and surely began to question their own place at this point. Yet now Matthew, an eyewitness to all these things, records the account of the greatest and most controversial event to ever be reported in human history.
